Gregory J. Quirk, NeuroLab Senior Scientist, awarded 2025 Julius Axelrod Prize by The US Society for Neuroscience

Congratulations to Gregory J. Quirk, PhD for being the recipient of 2025 Julius Axelrod Prize in Neuropharmacology and Mentoring Awarded by the US Society for Neuroscience. Quirk serves as a Supervising Scientist at the Behavioral Neuroscience Laboratory, National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, University of the Philippines-National Institutes of Health. He is a highly influential behavioral neuroscientist who has made seminal contributions to the understanding of fear and extinction learning. Quirk’s research provided the key evidence that fear extinction is new learning that depends on plasticity in prefrontal-amygdala circuits. Quirk has made a career-long commitment to promoting neuroscience in developing countries and increasing opportunities for students from a range of backgrounds, as indicated by his work in Puerto Rico and Philippines.
